Affiche concert j dilla slum village - okayplayer tour detroit, avril 2000
Part of my Blue Series which, despite its name, doesn't consist of only blue shades but of a 4 color (plus white) combination, this series is my interpretation of concerts / shows, mingling architectural elements of the cities the events take place at & my own knowledge of the artists, as it appears too often in my opinion that concert posters lack the elements that make the fans recognize the artist in his characteristics. J Dilla has continued a tradition of quiet yet vibrant boom-bap Hip Hop that was originated by the Native Tongues (De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest & others) in the early 90s, but his music truly improved & got recognized when he formed Slum Village, & even more when he joined Stones Throw's musical architect Madlib to produce tracks for MF Doom & cohorts. There weren't too many appearances of Jay Dee on stage, but one of his most celebrated was along the Okayplayer (The Roots' label) tour in the early 2000s. On this one I put Jay Dee's "Donuts"" & ""Fall in Love"" icing
